College taster day for Kirrie pupils
Angus College last week offered an exciting experience for S2 pupils attending high schools throughout Angus in an open day event dedicated to S2s.
On Friday, January 20, 156 S2 pupils from Webster’s Academy were invited along to the event which offered of a series of taster session for each subject area in the College.
This initiative, which launched last year, replaces the ‘College 4 U talks’, where college staff would visit each school to speak to pupils about the options available at college.
The new alternative offers pupils a chance to see the college environment for themselves whilst gaining an insight into the various subjects on offer.
This open day aims to help inform potential candidates who wish to undertake the Skills for Work programme as part of their S4 timetable.
The Skills for Work course has already provided hundreds of school pupils with the fantastic opportunity to develop their self confidence, meet new people and learn in a different environment whilst gaining a valuable qualification. Pupils are able to choose a specific area of study ranging from Hospitality and Motor Vehicle to Childcare and Engineering.
Among the activity sessions on offer at this week’s event was the “build a shed” construction challenge, an animation demo arranged by the Computing and IT team and a Run-around quiz provided by the Sport and Fitness department.
Director of Marketing and Business Growth, Kay Gilmour, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer this experience to S2 pupils across Angus and we believe that it will give them a greater insight into the Skills for Work programme and the options available to them here at Angus College.”
