CLAIRE CLOSES IN ON MOUNTAIN CLIMB TARGET

A Forfar student who is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Childreach International is holding a bingo tea next Tuesday evening.

Claire Cuthill, a student at Aberdeen University, has been an avid charity fundraiser since 2008.

Her efforts have generally been focused in her local community, but this year she has decided to tackle something a bit bigger.

On August 30 Claire will begin climbing the 5,895 metres to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and is giving herself six days to complete the challenge.

She has to raise 2,300 for the trip and is currently sitting at 1,800.

To help boost her funds for Childreach, she has organised the prize bingo night for Tuesday, July 13 in the Royal British Legion in Academy Street.

Everyone is welcome to attend the evening which has free entry.

Childreach do a great deal of work in the local community surrounding Kilimanjaro.

It builds and renovates schools and water systems and Claire will have the opportunity to visit some of the projects.

She said: "Since starting out on this challenge I have become increasingly conscious that many other children around the world have not been allowed the opportunities that I have.

"Childreach runs projects that provide clean water, health care, education etc. in disadvantaged communities throughout Africa and Asia.

"Additionally their strong development ethics means that every project employs only the local work force, becomes sustainable within three years and is always on a grass roots level."

There will be a raffle and tombola next Tuesday evening and all proceeds will go to Childreach.

The doors open at 7 pm with eyes down at 7.30 pm.
