Cashback scheme helping local groups

More than £122,000 of funding has been awarded to 15 separate projects in Angus over the last four years as part of the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities Youth Work Fund.

The local figures have been compiled following the latest allocation of grant funding which has now distributed £6,580,199 nationally to 641 separate organisations delivering diversionary youth work activity to all 32 local authority areas in Scotland.

The Youth Work Fund is administrated and delivered by YouthLink Scotland, the national agency for youth work.

The Fund distributes grant award funding to youth work organisations in order to provide diversionary events and activities that are developmental in nature for young people ages 10-19 years who are at risk of becoming involved in anti social behaviour.

One of the local projects that has benefited from the CashBack for Communities Youth Work Fund in Angus is The Pitstop Youth Project, run by The Drug Initiative Group in Forfar.

The Pitstop runs four drop-in sessions per week for young people in Forfar and the surrounding areas, where they can take part in activities, as well as be supported through group sessions.

Young people have the opportunity to chat with youth workers where they can receive guidance and support. The project works closely with a NHS Young People’s Health Worker to enhance support to the youths in attendance.

Commenting on The Pitstop Youth Project, Sylvia Breen, Development Worker of The Pitstop Youth Project said: “CashBack has provided us with the opportunity to sustain our evening drop in service, helping us to continue working with young people and provide them with much needed support as well as bringing about a sense of community cohesion.”
