MEMBERS of Forfar Young Curlers took part in the Jockey Jan Bonspiel at the Forfar Indoor Sports Centre.

The event was held in memory of local junior curler and aspiring jockey Jan Wilson, who tragically lost her life in a fire in North Yorkshire in 2009.

To mark this year’s event Jan’s parents, Drew and Margaret Wilson, presented the young curlers with a cheque for £1,000.

A spokesperson for Forfar Young Curlers said: “A huge thank you to Margaret and Drew Wilson for their continuing support and their donation from the Jockey Jan Memorial Fund of £1,000 which will allow FYC to continue to support and develop junior curling in the Forfar area.

“There were six teams full of FYC talent playing today. Some great curling was on show, and six very well balanced teams. This was a great opportunity for some of our younger players to play competitively, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the day.

“At the end of the Schenkel tournament in which winning teams play winning teams, and same team is never played twice, Euan MacDiarmid’s team came out on top, with Jodie Duff (third), Mark Ogg (second) and eight-year-old Inca Maguire (lead), beating Craig Joiner (skip), Fraser Smith (third), Adam MacDiarmid (second) and Sarah Allison (lead) into second place. Hailey Duff (skip), Ewan Maguire (third), Rachel Flint (second) and Daniel Burnett (lead) were the third placed team.”
