Ancestor hunting for Tartan Day

ONE OF the key events of this year’s Tartan Day Scotland Festival, which runs from March 29 until April 7, will be the Tayroots Family History Day at Dundee’s Discovery Point.

This free event takes place on Friday, April 5, and features top genealogy and local history experts.

The experts will be providing family historians with invaluable advice on how to trace their family tree, how to discover more about their ancestors and uncovering the facts about the part their forebears played in Scotland’s history.

The Tayroots Family History Day starts with a talk by well-known professional genealogist Chris Paton, author of ‘Tracing Your Family History on the Internet’, ‘Discover Scottish Church Records’ and ‘Discover Scottish Land Records’.

“I will be focusing on the history of the various Scottish churches from 1560 to 1855,” explained Chris.

Places for workshops and talks are limited and booking is advisable, this can be done by telephoning 01307 473226 or alternatively you can visit www.angusheritage.com/tayrootsday.
