2012 Marafun plans

FORFAR Rotary Club members have started planning for the latest Marafun on Sunday, May 27, with some major initiatives.

Ever mindful of its aims to assist in the community as well as enlisting community help, Rotary has introduced a change to those interested in running a team in the Marafun.

The major change is to allow teams to be entered to run for their own charity or club.

Such a move will benefit teams, organisations and clubs to raise much-needed funds.

This means schools, football clubs, youth groups, community groups or other charities can enter a team. This can be arranged by choosing this option and paying an increased entry fee or continuing to run for the Rotary Club charity and paying a smaller fee.

By listening to the feedback from previous years it has also decided to run a half marafun at the same time, so that those daunted by running eight laps can now enter a team for the half marathon. Each team can be made up of any amount of runners, providing 20 laps are run.

This will be more of a fun-run event and teams will be encouraged to run in fancy dress giving the overall event a more carnival atmosphere.

Medals will be given to all participants of both events.

Teams in both events will be restricted to three categories, male, female and mixed teams, with the fun runners in the half Marafun being judged purely as the most original dressed.

Any organisations, etc. should initially register their interest in competing by giving details of their team and one contact by using the Guestbook on the Forfar Rotary website www.forfarrotary.org.uk

Further updates will be released in the coming weeks but it will assist planning if Rotary knows the number of teams interested.
