£600 WARD BOOST AFTER CHARITY CLIMB

A BRAVE Kirriemuir woman who battled breast cancer has presented £600 to Ward 27 of Ninewells Hospital after completing a charity climb of Ben Nevis last month.

Janice Lemanczyk (46) joined a group of local people on June 5 to scale the mountain in aid of different charities, with Janice choosing Ward 27 for all the wonderful care she received in the after math of cancer.

Janice said: "I got the chance to climb Ben Nevis with friends who were all raising money for charities close to them.

"We had a fantastic day with great weather and had good fun. We really enjoyed it."

Janice, an early years practitioner at Airlie Primary School, was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2004.

She said: "I have just recently completed the operations to reconstruct my breast after cancer. It has been five years but now I feel I can now move on with my life.

"I have raised money for Breast Cancer Care and Maggie's which supported me through my illness. Now I raise money for the team in Ward 27 who put me back together and made me the confident person I am today.

"This ward is the plastic surgery ward that help us in the after math of a mastectomy. Sometimes they go unnoticed for the work they do and it really is them who help women regain all confidence after their illness by reconstructing the breast they have lost.

"I want to let people know, who are at present going through this horrendous ordeal, that there is some light at the end of a dark tunnel - you can beat this hideous disease and come out the other end feeling good.

"Mr Stevenson and his team, all the nurses in the ward, the secretaries, and everyone associated with plastic surgery in Ward 27, are all remarkable people, so caring and sensitive."
