£1400 HAITI BOOST FROM WEBSTER'S
STAFF and pupils at Webster's High School have taken part in a number of initiatives which will go a long way to ease the plight of the people of Haiti.
Sixth year pupils Emily Hood and Jenna Rowlands arranged a school-wide hokey-cokey to raise funds for Shelter Boxes for those whose lives were shattered by the earthquake.
They charged every pupil 1 to take part in the dancing fund-raiser and the school's efforts initially raised 800.
However, there was a welcome surprise for Rotarian Peter Giles last Friday when he went along to the school to collect the cheque, only to discover a further 600 had been added to the total.
He said: "Initially we were told the cheque was for 800 from the sponsored hokey cokey. This means we can now purchase three shelter boxes."
The extra 600 was raised by pupils organising a jewellery stall and a coffee morning.
Furthermore, an un-named teacher won an in-school Bonus Ball lottery and donated the winnings.
The 1400 will be sent to a branch of the Rotary in Cornwall where the boxes are put together with items including a 10-person tent, thermal blankets, cooking equipment, water purification kit and a tool kit.
These three new boxes have increased the number of boxes sent from Kirriemuir to 10 at a cost of about 4,500. Donations have been received from local schools, churches, Rotary funds and individuals.
