A Forfar-based DJ is hoping to kick-start an annual music festival in Letham which will draw on the area’s cultural heritage.

Postman Shawn Moir, who was brought up in the village, organised a re-union of friends two years ago and it was a great success.

Since then he has been asked to organise another event which is open to all and which takes place this Saturday in the Letham Hotel.

Local band Ganked, comprising Gary Fullerton, Frank Hutcheon and Gav Hedge, will perform in the public bar from 8 to 10 p.m., and in the function suite music will be supplied by a D.J. from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

If successful, Shawn hopes the get together could turn into an annual festival.

He said: “It would be great if we could organise an annual music festival to celebrate the heritage of the area.

“This year is the 1330th anniversary of the Battle of Nechtansmere and I thought we could maybe tie things in with this. Forfar has Forfarfest, Kirriemuir has Bonfest, it would be great if Letham could have its own music festival to celebrate its heritage. We will test the water on Saturday to see how it goes.”

Everyone will be welcome on Saturday in the Letham Hotel, There is a £5 charge for the function suite.
