Learning English

Angus Council’s Community Learning and Development Service will be starting off their popular ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes across the county from Monday, August 22.

The free classes are held in Forfar, Montrose, Brechin and Arbroath in local schools in the evenings. They concentrate on speaking, listening, writing and reading and are designed to help non-English speakers to better integrate with the local community and to access local services. SQA qualifications are also available.

People who have gone along to the classes have commented on how useful they were for registering with the doctor and making appointments, dealing with banks and understanding information from schools amongst other benefits.

The Service is also interested in recruiting volunteers who might like to get involved in supporting the classes – no knowledge of foreign languages is required.
