The latest production from Forfar Dramatic Society will be staged in the Strathmore Cricket Club from tonight, (Wednesday) to Saturday November 21.
There will be three evening performances at 7.30pm and a matinee on the Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.
The society are putting on a performance of ‘Later Life’, a charming, witty and poignant offering from the pen of American playwright A R Gurney.
The Society’s return to the cricket club revives a creative partnership between the two organisations, which has worked well in the past.
According to Later Life’s director Drew Barnett, the Nigel Hazel Lounge at the cricket club is an ideal venue for this play. He said: “Later Life is an intimate play, which requires a venue to match.
“The cricket club fits the bill perfectly. It is a welcoming place which brings actors and audience close together to share in a performance that is all about the characters and their stories”.
‘Later Life’ is an excellent choice of play for the Dramatic Society at this time. It provides a perfect vehicle for introducing some new acting members to the Forfar audience. While the play’s main plot line centres around Austin and Ruth, who are given the chance to rekindle an old attraction 30 years after meeting, their conversation is punctuated by encounters with a number of quirky and engaging characters who are all at a similar stage in their lives and confronting new opportunities and challenges. Which is where the new additions to the Company’s cast come in. They each have the opportunity to bring one of these supporting characters to life.
Drew Barnett commented: “A group like ours always requires new blood to sustain it and offer our audience variety.
“We are delighted to welcome new members to the stage and I am sure that the audience will not be disappointed by their performances.”
If you would like to find out how Austin and Ruth’s story ends, you should get along to see ‘Later Life’ at Strathmore Cricket Club.
