Montrose man John Ruddy has been confirmed as Scottish Labour’s candidate for Angus North and Mearns in the forthcoming Scottish Parliament elections.

A campaigner for Scottish Labour in Angus for many years, Mr Ruddy said he is “proud and humbled” to have been selected for his home constituency.

He continued: “Even today, we see injustice and inequality all around us. It’s what has driven me to stand as a candidate for Scottish Labour, in order to fight it.

“The SNP have failed to deliver on their promises despite being in Government for over eight years, and I will be highlighting where we can and will do better. Our campaign will be a positive vision articulating our Labour values, and our members - many of them newly joined - will help me in getting that vital message out.”

Mr Ruddy’s selection has also be endorsed by Aberdeenshire Labour councillor Alison Evison.

She said: “John Ruddy has the experience needed to understand the challenges faced by working families. He listens and responds to the concerns of residents and communities.

“He will be a strong representative of the people of our area in the Scottish Parliament.”

Mr Ruddy lives in Montrose with his wife and young son and works for NHS Tayside as an energy officer.
