Kirrie garage continues wargames sponsorship

TWO generations of sponsors and two generations of recipients got together at Autosales of Kirriemuir at the weekend.

The very long standing sponsorship of the annual wargames exhibition held in Kirriemuir continued as Autosales donated vouchers, goods and services to the prizelist for the show to be held in Webster’s High School in November.

Proprietors Barrie Ewart (father) and Bruce Ewart (son) once again were very generous in their donations.

A group of local members from Kirriemuir Wargames Club accepted the sponsorship on behalf of the club.

The treasurer Steve Shaw positively glowed as did committee member Neil McGregor.

Members of the next generation of junior members were also there to witness the handover as was club chairman Dale Smith, the founder of both the club and the annual exhibition.

The club has its roots in an earlier exhibition held in the Glengate Hall in 1985.

This was a combined vintage toy and wargames show which raised money for the special class at Webster’s High to help with toilet and shower facilities.

That link with Webster’s has been rekindled in recent years, with TARGE established in the main hall of the school attracting wargamers young and old from throughout the country.

The continuing support of the rector, Eric Summers, and other staff at the school is particularly valued with a positive surge of interest from school age members recently.

The junior section, aged 11 to 16, has members from Angus, east Perthshire and southern Aberdeenshire with the senior group, from 16 to 116 also expanding this year.

Kirriemuir Wargames Club meets twice a month in the Guide Halls, Roods, Kirriemuir on the second Friday evening of the month from 7 pm and on the last Sunday of the month from 10 am.

New members are always welcome. For more information telephone 01575-574128 any evening or check out the club website www.kirriemuirwargames.co.uk
