A stately home tucked out of view on the outskirts of Forfar hit the headlines last week when it was revealed it was the venue chosen by Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen for the christening of their baby son.

Under a cloak of secrecy, the Rooneys and their son Kai made a whistle-stop visit to Kinnettles House for the private ceremony.

A national newspaper revealed last week the high-profile couple hosted the christening at the exclusive venue. However, their plans were thrown into array by the weather with the ceremony being delayed for several hours. It is understood the the priest, choir and caterers were delayed.

According to the press report, the England striker spent 600 on a cross-shaped christening cake, decorated with diamante sugar sparkles, for the event which was attended by 12 close relatives.

The christening, which is believed to have started at 10.30 pm, was held in a room festooned with white roses and a 4ft picture of one-year-old Kai.

The christening took place in the wake of intense media speculation surrounding the Rooney's relationship following allegations about the footballer's private life.
