Kanjoos - The Miser

THEATRE Company Tara Arts and their new stage adaptation of French playwright Molière’s classic comedy Kanjoos - The Miser - are performing at the Dundee Rep Theatre until this Saturday.

Kanjoos (Hindi for “miser”) is transported from 17th century France to modern India.

A man obsessed with hoarding his wealth, according to Gandhian principles of relentless self-sacrifice.

Harjinder is a man who hates spending money, whether on his household or his children, who themselves are desperate for marriage and the fashionable Bollywood life-style of Mumbai.

Kanjoos - The Miser has been adapted by comedian and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli and Jatinder Verma.

Set in modern day India and features comedy, love, lust, greed, dance and Bollywood music, this classic farce is a comedy for our times.

When the age of austerity is pitched firmly up against the ever-increasing desire to consume, sparks will fly.

This new stage adaptation by the UK’s foremost South Asian theatre company, the critically acclaimed Tara Arts’ and TV funny-man Hardeep Singh Kohli features some of the best in British South Asian acting talent.

The production also features the beautiful vocals of Sohini Alam who with her band of talented musicians perform classic and modern Bollywood songs.

The show opened on Tuesday and runs until this Saturday, March 2.
