Staff and pupils at Glenisla Primary School are inviting the local community to pop along and take part in a Big Dig at the school to help create a garden area.

The school, next to Peel Farm, Lintrathen, is surrounded by wildlife and it is hoped the new garden will attract the wildlife into the playground and make the school less “sterile”.

Mrs Jill Davie, head teacher said: “We are holding a Big Dig at the school on Sunday, June 15 from 10 a.m. and are asking volunteers to come along to help us create a garden.

“We are looking for volunteers in the community, not necessarily green fingered, to come along to help dig some paths and different garden beds which have been designed by the children.

“We already have quite a lot of vegetable planters which are overgrown. We will clear them out and start from scratch. We will also have a bog garden and a wildflower area and are looking to provide a ‘grow and eat’ area with berry bushes, strawberries and rhubarb. We are also hoping to have a path through a sensory garden which the children can walk through. Any donations of plants and seeds would also be gratefully received.”

Anyone able to help is asked to telephone the school in advance on 01575 577110.
