ARTISTS from the Forfar and Kirriemuir areas are preparing to open their doors to the public as part of the Angus Open Studios event later this month.
The popular event runs from Thursday, May 23, to Monday, May 27, and among those taking part is Forfar artist Issy Valentine of Lour Road.
Issy will be joining up with Lynda Rossman and Valerie Shuff to take part in this the third AOS project.
Issy and Lynda are both members of the Sketchbook Artists’ Group who meet regularly at Dundee Botanic Gardens to draw inspiration from nature. Issy works in paint, mixed media and fibre, Lynda is a painter in oil and watercolour. Valerie Shuff is a celebrated Arbroath artist who has her work regularly exhibited across the UK and in various collections.
Issy said: “Val and I first met at Duncan of Jordanstone as mature students in the mid 1990s. Whereas Val’s degree launched her art career, my own path, due to family circumstances, led me to leave with a diploma, study management instead, and then work in the public sector until recently being able to return to focus on my art. My move to Angus has rekindled our friendship and Val has been very supportive to me, over the last couple of years, as I rebuild my confidence as an artist. Lynda and I love the Sketchbook Group, and the opportunity to take ‘time out’ sketching every Monday morning in a lovely location. We had great fun in the sun last year at my studio for AOS and we are looking forward to having Val join us this year.”
Issy, Valerie and Lynda invite the public to view their art and craft, cards and prints at 78 Lour Road, Forfar, DD8 2AZ, from May 23 to 27, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a preview from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. Refreshments will be served,
