Angus and Dundee Battalion Army Cadet Force has embarked on an exciting training package for 2011 and is continuing to recruit boys and girls from 12 years of age to join the Forfar Black Watch Detachment.
So far, since January of this year both adults and cadets have taken part in several weekends.
One such weekend saw 14 adults and 24 cadets take part in an Activity First Aid Course which involved many hours of instruction from dealing with heart attacks to Anaphylactic Shock resulting in receiving a first aid badge and certificate.
First Aid is a unique qualification which is a transferable skill in any walk of life
A Junior Cadet Instruction Cadre also took place which involved many aspects of leadership ability from Classroom Instruction to Command Tasks.
Other events that have taken place are Battalion training weekends which involve 1, 2 and 3 star cadets who have been attending Barry Buddon Training Camp on separate weekends.
Battalion weekends enable cadets from all areas of Angus and Dundee to meet and train together so that they are ready to be assessed for their next star board level at annual camp which will be held at Beckingham Training Camp, Nottingham from Saturday, July 23 to Friday, August 5.
Company weekends have similar training objectives and involve adults and cadets closer to home.
Forfar Detachment is one of eight Angus based detachments which will attend ‘A’ Company training weekends at Barry Buddon.
Forfar Black Watch Detachment is an up and coming detachment which has recently had a change of staff who are keen to recruit new cadets from Forfar and the surrounding areas.
They meet every Wednesday evening at the detachment, based on the corner of Lochside Road and Castle Street in Forfar (opposite the Original Factory Shop) and train from 7 pm to 9 pm.
If you know of anyone from the age of 12 and who is in secondary education and would like to know more about the cadets then either visit the detachment on a Wednesday evening or contact Battalion Headquarters on 01382 533349 who will be happy to give you more advice on joining the cadets.
