Plans for local group to help those bereaved by suicide

INSIGHT Counselling, which has been offering counselling to individuals bereaved by suicide in Dundee and Angus for around 20 years, is hoping to set up support groups for those in the Forfar and Kirriemuir areas.

Recently it has been funded by the Big Lottery to provide support for people bereaved by suicide.

It has taken a room at Arbroath’s old Ladyloan school where people bereaved by suicide can meet others in a similar situation and gain knowledge and skills. Insight Counselling has responded also by providing individual counselling for people bereaved by suicide across Angus.

Talking to others can help process difficult emotions that occur during bereavement. Feelings of anger, shame, guilt and hopelessness are often experienced.

Workshops teach how to address these emotions through creative methods and the counselling is free.

Two people die by suicide every day in Scotland and it is estimated around six close friends and family members will be affected directly by each suicide.
