The Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group is holding its third health event at the practice on Tuesday, August 26.
The event, run in conjunction with Angus CHP, is like a mini health fair in the practice waiting room with health information stands on different health topics.
The ‘Healthy Ageing Event’ is open to all patients registered with the Academy Medical Centre.
It will run from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
There will be information stands on continence - healthy bowels and bladder; health improvement - walking; healthy eating; healthy bones; blood pressure checks; quitting smoking; detect cancer early and information on positive mental health.
Booking is not essential but if you want to know more then speak to a volunteer at the information desk within the practice or look under ‘News and Issues’ under the Patient Group of the Academy Medical Centre webpage which is www.academymedicalcentre.co.uk
The patient participation group is a representative group of patients working with the practice to improve services.
It was set up to consult and plan with patients whenever possible on the facilities and provision of services and to improve communication between the practice and its patients. It allows patients to make positive suggestions about the practice and their own health care and to develop self–help projects to meet the needs of fellow patients
The group also brings a sense of ownership and partnership between practice staff and patients and provides practical support to help and implement change.
It is a member of the National Association for Patient Participation.
The Healthy Ageing event on August 26 follows two similar events held by the group.
The first one on healthy ageing incorporated managing your medicines, prevention of falls and cardiac rehabilitation; the other on memory loss and mental health including dementia and how to keep your mind active. Both these events were supported by Rhona Guild of Angus CHP and were delivered by professions in their field.
