Approximately 1000 senior citizens gathered at Glamis Castle last Thursday to take part in an outdoor exercise class to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Dowager Countess of Strathmore.
The exercise event took place at 2pm on the lawn in front of the historic landmark. Dorothy Dobson, who runs a non-profit organisation for over 60’s exercise classes, organised the event to coincide with the 80th birthday of Mary the Dowager Countess of Strathmore who is a Patron of the organisation. The participants were mainly Scottish, although some came from across the UK and abroad. All participants have been invited by the Dorothy Dobson organisation.
Sadly, Lady Strathmore was not able to attend the event as she is still recovering from an operation she had in April.
A statement released yesterday by the Castle Director said: “Lady Strathmore is devastated that she cannot be at Glamis Castle for the Exercise Event.
“Unfortunately she had open heart surgery for a valve replacement on April 30. The recovery time has taken much longer than expected and she is only just home after four weeks in hospital.”
A letter from Lady Strathmore was read out by Dorothy to all the participants before the exercise class began.
