Community grant for patients’ group

Improvements are being made to the information shop at the Academy Medical Centre.

Improvements are being made to the information shop at the Academy Medical Centre.

Improvements are to be made to the information shop run by the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group.

The group recently applied to Angus Council for a community grant to help fund improvements to the shop, which is located within the practice reception area.

It provides health information to patients, their families and visitors to the practice.

The PPG was successful in its application and is able to provide the information point with additional resources, which allows patients and visitors accessing the service to be given leaflets and fact sheets, which are downloaded from approved NHS Tayside web sites. Academy patients visiting the practice can also access free WiFi for tablets and smart phones while in the practice waiting room and reception areas.

The Academy PPG is very grateful to Angus Council for supporting this very valuable service.

To complement it the group would like to recruit additional volunteers to increase the hours the information shop can be open to patients and the public.

If you have a couple of hours to spare each week, and are a registered patient of the practice, the PPG would like to hear from you; no experience is necessary as training will be given.

If interested please call the medical centre reception on 01307 462316 giving your name and contact details and a PPG Committee member will get in touch with you.

The PPG also aims to brighten the children’s play area in the waiting room and is running a poster painting competition for children aged three to five and six to eight on “healthy eating”.

The poster should be A4 size and the closing date for entries is April 30.

There will be a prize for the winning entry and the best entries will be displayed in the practice. The applicant’s name, age and contact details should be written on the back.
