The hard work carried out by local postmen and women has been praised by the area’s MP and MSP who visited the Forfar sorting office recently.

As the countdown to Christmas continues and local posties handle thousands of letters and parcels, Angus MP Mike Weir and Nigel Don, MSP for Angus North and Mearns, visited the office in West High Street to get some idea of the work involved at this the busiest time of the year.

Mr Weir and Mr Don were shown around the office and were introduced to the postmen and women who are working hard sorting and delivering mail in the Forfar area in the run-up to Christmas.

Mr Weir said: “This has been a significant year for Royal Mail and it was good to meet with local posties to learn first-hand their own experience of local operations.

“Our postal workers do such an important job all year round, especially during November and December when their workload increases markedly helping to deliver Christmas for many people and families in our area.”

Mr Don added: “It was great to meet postmen and women at Royal Mail’s Forfar delivery office and be reminded of just how much effort they put into delivering for people, especially at this time of year.

“The Forfar office covers not just the town itself but a significant rural area so local posties need to work in all sorts of difficult weather conditions at this time of year to ensure that we all receive our mail.”
