Green-fingered enthusiasts in trophy-winning form at Kirrie

THERE was a healthy entry in all the classes at the annual spring show of Kirriemuir and District Gardening Association, held in Kirriemuir Old Parish Church Hall on Saturday.

There was an encouraging start to the Kirrie Dumpling World Championship – which was won by George Bruce from Airlie.

The entry fee for the world championship, along with the proceeds of the sale of Kirrie Dumpling plants, will be donated to the McKenzie Room at Kirrie Day Care.

The chairman, Mr Stewart Ramsay, introduced Carol Pendreich of the Flower Shop, who presented the main awards to the following:-

Spalding Cup for best exhibit – J. Elliott; Silver Cup for most points in cut flowers – S. Ramsay; runner-up – A. Milne; William Milne Cup for most points in pot plants – G. Bruce; runner-up – P. Kenny.

Kirriemuir Town Council Salver for most points in Flower Arranging – D. Murray; runner-up – S. Bruce; Benshie Bowl for most points in Class 31 of flower arranging (Old Time) – S. Bruce; Silver Cup for most points in baking – D. Murray; runner-up – N. Guthrie; Silver Cup for most points in handicrafts – S. Bruce; runner-up – A. Pole

Sid Lobban Shield for most points in children’s classes – Bethany Guthrie; Kirrie Dumpling World Championship – G. Bruce.
