ANGUS Council has decided to award a number of grants to local community causes.
The Friends of Forfar Botanists received £990.69 to go towards designing and building a website to inform visitors about the historical contribution of the organisation.
Funding was awarded on the basis that the website will provide promotion for the garden and in turn help to promote Angus.
The Angus Young Engineers (AYE) After School Club have received a grant of £1,000 towards showcasing the work of the group at the National Science and Engineering Finals held at the London Excel last month.
A grant of £30 was awarded to Communication and Performance Examinations Scotland LTD towards the ‘Festival of the Spoken Word 2013’.
The grant was awarded as they help increase confidence in public speaking and the development of this capacity is consistent with the Curriculum for Excellence.
Angus Riding for the Disabled received £497.21 towards the purchase of a Chyenne treeless saddle pad and girth.
The special saddle will improve the riding experience for children and adults with physical and learning difficulties.
A total of £500 was awarded to the Angus and Dundee Bird Club to go towards the upkeep of local bird habitats.
The Growing the Game initiative have received £4,559.70 to go towards purchasing football goals suitable for children.
A number of clubs in the local area including Lochside Boys and Kirrie Youths are involved in the scheme which will develop a 4v4 pathway in football for six to eight-year-olds.
Angus Arts received £2,000 towards a programme of arts workshops and an observational film of the project.
The group are looking to have a programme of arts workshops over the spring and summer culminating in a final celebratory event and film.
Memus Hall has received £2,065 to go towards re-sanding, cleaning and making the floor even.
The essential work to the floor will enable the hall to continue to provide a vital meeting point for residents of this rural area.
The Glamis Community Council have received £5,000 to go towards the hiring of marquees for the Glamis Gathering 2013.
Local organisations, groups, etc. will be offered space in the marquees to showcase their activities, raise their profile, encourage membership and help raise funds.
This will give people the opportunity to learn more about the activities within their own community as well as having a fun day out.
The Strathmore Christian Fellowship have received £3,356 to go towards the cost of running a community Family Fun Day.
