Team entries for Kirriemuir’s Splash fun swim event next month have already attracted an enthusiastic response from schools and clubs.

Entries from all over Angus have already been received for the 24th event which takes place on Saturday, September 28.

Splash organisers especially invite community, ‘Old and Bold’ and teams from local companies - the swim more than repays an afternoon’s effort in the pool with valuable publicity throughout Tayside.

To date, more than 40 local firms have pledged their support as lane sponsors, contributing thousand of pounds to this popular local fund-raising event.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said: “Some Kirriemuir and Forfar companies and professional practices have supported Splash for many years despite many calls on their generosity. A roll call of honour will appear on the day for all to see, to recognise their strong community spirit.

Our main sponsor for the third year is Guild Homes (Tayside) Ltd. We must also thank Kirriemuir Rotary Club for their unfailing financial support over the years.”

You can get your team entry form wherever a Splash poster is displayed or by phoning 01575 572819 or 572129.

Each team should include six to eight swimmers of any age mix (from six years) taking turns to swim for 25 minutes in total.

Appearance times for each team will be published in this newspaper one week prior to the event.

Charities chosen to benefit from this year’s relay swim proceeds include Scotland’s Erskine Hospital, Alzheimer’s Scotland (Angus Branch), Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital, Children’s Diabetes Aberdeen, Special Olympics, Rotary Bosnia Fund, Operacion San Andres Peru, Pelotas Children’s Home Brazil, Kiva Development Loans, Sight Savers, Water Aid Africa and Christian Aid. Many of these caring charities are significant to local people whose lives have been touched by their work.

Splash trophies are awarded to juniors, seniors, community and club swimmers and every swimmer receives a personal certificate to record their achievement.

For keen swimming athletes the unbroken distance of 138 lengths (2009) is proudly held by Dundee Aquatics Swimming Club. The event is supported by Webster’s pool lifeguards.
