The morning service at the East and Old Parish Church proved to be a special occasion for church members Alf and Marion Birse on Sunday.
For the couple, who hail from Forfar, took the opportunity to renew their wedding vows to mark their golden wedding anniversary.
The couple met at a dance in the Reid Hall and married on August 28, 1965.
Marion worked as a nursery nurse and Alf was a storeman with A.T. Mungall before working as a salesman in the motor trade.
They have two sons - Scott and Gary, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The couple asked relatives and friends not to give gifts but instead donations to the Motor Neurone Disease. Marion received a mis-diagnosis 13 years ago. Some £300 was donated.
Marion and Alf, who are both elders of the church, thank everyone for their kind gifts, flowers, cards and good wishes received.
They also say a big thank you to the Rev Barbara Ann Sweetin for her kind words during the service on Sunday.
The couple enjoy caravanning and Alf is well-known in the area as a member of the church’s Accord group. He has also teamed up with Bill Carr and they entertain with songs in local old people’s homes.
