Walkers in the woods at Crombie Park will shortly be in for a surprise when it becomes the latest venue for ‘Giants in the Forest’.

The ‘giants’ are a series of large sculptures, in the shape of enormous heads made of natural materials, which will be sited throughout the woodland to grow and change with the seasons. The scheme combines art, technology and the natural environment to inspire creativity and to encourage more people to get outdoors and experience Scotland’s most amazing wilderness.

‘The Awakening’ of the heads will take place on Thursday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the day will be split into three sessions – from 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The sculptures will be decorated with plants, moss and other natural materials before being raised and secured in the trees, high above the ground.

Tom McGrath, head of Angus Council’s Countryside Services, said: “The awakening event is a great way of children interacting with the natural environment and learning more about what they can find around them.”

The event is free but booking for the timed sessions is advisable. Further information is avaialable by telephoning 01241 860360 or by e-mailing crombiepark@angus.gov.uk.
