A FORFAR shop has become the first business in Angus to have a Google Business Photos virtual tour on the web.

The milestone was reached by Sharp Music shop, which is situated in the centre of the Forfar high Street, after they decided to try something different.

Since signing up, several more Forfar businesses have signed up, two recent ones being Angus Angling and the Forfar Resource Store charity.

The interactive marketing tool from Google uses Street View technology to allow customers to find what they are looking for with Google search.

The product is created by joining a selection of 360 degree panoramic photos shot inside and outside.

The virtual tour for Sharp Music was created by the Mr Droogle business owned and run by Drew Cunningham who is the Google Trusted Photographer for Tayside and Fife.

Forfar-based Alan S. Morrison, of ASM Media and PR, was appointed as marketing manager of Mr Droogle and he started his search for customers on his own doorstep.

Until February, he had focused on shooting charities and businesses in Dundee but will now focus on the Forfar area.

Alan said: “As I walked along the Forfar High Street wondering which business might be the first to say ‘yes’, I was struck by how attractive the displays in Sharp Music were.

“When I explained to the owners, Kevin Shelly and Ruth Arthur, how the tour worked and its benefits, they immediately saw its potential to bring new customers to their shop - allowing them to see why they would want to go in there in person.

“I can’t thank them enough for embracing it as they have - making fantastic use of it on their website’s front page - and I am delighted the first people we have provided this to in Angus are such an exciting young business driven by passion for what they do and decades of experience in their field.

Speaking about the high-tech development, Kevin said: “We are delighted with the results, it is easy to see the benefits this may bring to our business, allowing customers to browse the shop from far afield 24-7. It was so easy to have the process done and Alan gave us the technical information and Drew was great fun to work with during the photo shoot.”
