FORFAR Boys’ Football Club has announced ambitious plans to link up with local businesses in an attempt to hone the skills of their players - both on and off the pitch.
Club chairman Barry Quinn has revealed the club is keen to become one of the first clubs in Scotland to work even closer with local businesses and industry to provide employment, career and apprenticeship opportunities for players aged between 16 and 19 looking for work in the area.
He told the Dispatch and Herald: “It is becoming increasingly difficult for young people to find employment and equally difficult for employers to find reliable, honest, hardworking and disciplined youngsters to join their organisations.
“We at Forfar Boys’ Football Club have instilled ethics, codes of conduct, discipline, hard work, team spirit and ambition in all our players from the moment they join the club.
“I personally believe they are valuable skills and attributes to have and, coupled with the right attitude, motivation and opportunity, we could strike up a long term partnership with businesses and the club.
“We are currently giving the boys a step up the football ladder, but hope local businesses will come forward to help give them a step up the career ladder.”
In an effort to reach out to possible employers, the club is contacting local businesses in the hope of gaining their support.
The club has also announced plans to develop its social media sites, again in an effort to reach out to the local community.
Barry continued: “We now have over 200 boys at the club across 11 teams with ages ranging from five to 19 years.
“We have 30 fully qualified managers and coaches and seven office-bearers. We are extremely proud to state we are the biggest youth football club in Angus and most of Tayside.
“We have recently received the SFA Quality Mark for the way our club is structured and supported with the correct policies and level of competence from our volunteers which ensures the safety of our players and highest level of youth development coaching at all levels.
“As the club gets bigger we have recognised the fact we were falling behind and missing valuable opportunities available through better branding, promotion and communication via an improved website and the use of social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and You Tube.
“To that end, we are now developing an exciting and brand new website, Facebook page and Twitter account for Forfar Boys.
“We are also setting up Forfar Boys TV via You Tube which will provide footage of training sessions, presentations, pre and post match interviews and updates on projects.
“These will be completed and implemented by January 31, 2013.
Forfar Boys are also working closely with other senior clubs in their quest to improve and develop sports facilities in Forfar and the surrounding area, with the ultimate goal of combining training sessions, scouting for players and developing Forfar Boys’ Football Club as a feeder club for youth players to progress up the footballing ranks to senior levels.
