A Forfar rock band recently won a major Tayside-wide competition aimed at finding the best young musicians in the region.

Around 7 won the final of the Tayside Showdown, the area’s equivalent of ‘Battle of the Bands,’ which was held at Non-Zeros, one of Dundee’s biggest venues.

They won a top prize of a free recording and mixing session in a Dundee studio, which will help to raise their profile even further.

The four-piece band, comprising Aidan Harvey (15) on lead guitar and backing vocals; Ryan Carroll (16), lead vocals and rhythm guitar; bassist and backing vocalist Lachlan Wallace (16) and drummer Adam Cashley (15) was founded in October 2011 by Lachlan and have been gigging since March 2012.

Since then they have enjoyed a growing reputation in the local area, aided by an outstanding performance at BonFest in Kirriemuir two years ago.

This accolade adds to the continuing local success of the band who have been steadily attracting attention throughout the local music scene.

They played regular gigs in local pubs and clubs throughout 2013 and their energetic live performances have also been popular at Arbroath Seafest, ForfarFest and Montrose Music Festival, where they will be playing again this year.

The band counts their main influences as AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters and Green Day, amongst many others and air play on Radio North Angus of their own material has also contributed to the band’s climb in popularity.

The Tayside Showdown this year attracted acts from across the region, with the final contended by Unknown on Sunday, a young indie/rock band from Dundee; alternative rock band Melophobia, also from Dundee and hip hop/rock band Supa & Da Kryptonites from Fife.

Both Chalmers nightclub and the Cliffburn Hotel in Arbroath hosted heats for the contest, organised by Oh God! Not Another Wild Goat Promotions.
