The centre of Forfar came to a stand still on Monday morning for a flag bearing ceremony to mark the lead up to the annual National Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

Helen Oswald, the Provost of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne, the Lord-Lieutenant of Angus and Mr Iain Gaul, leader of Angus Council, joined other dignitaries opposite the Town and County Hall in time for the 10.30 a.m. ceremony which was watched by a small gathering of spectators.

The ceremony linked with similar events throughout the country. Also in attendance were representatives from The Royal British Legion (Scotland) Forfar Branch, current serving personnel from the Royal Navy, military associations, reservists and cadets from all three services.

The Armed Forces Day flag will fly above Town and County Hall in place of the Saltire until Monday, July 1.
