A LOCAL good cause has benefited from an annual sporting event that was staged towards the end of the summer season, after being earlier postponed due to wet weather.

The Factory Cup six-a-side cricket tourney was staged as the final event of the Strathmore Cricket Club 2012 season, with Strathmore Rugby club emerging as winners.

In addition to the silverware, the winners also received a £100 cheque from sponsors Strathmore Funeral Directors, Roberts Street, Forfar, to be donated to a local good cause.

The rugby club players opted to present the cheque to Lippen Care.

Although the cricket season is over, social and fund-raising events continue.

The summer 300 Club final draw was made the other week, with the £1,000 prize being won by former player Grant Lawrence.

A full list of the other prizes has been posted on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
