Graeme Dey, Angus South MSP, is aiming to secure a Members Debate in the Scottish Parliament on the subject of littering.
Mr Dey has secured support from SNP, Labour and Conservative MSPs for his Parliamentary Motion which highlights the success of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s 2012 Spring Clean.
Having secured cross-party support, the motion is now eligible for a Members Business Debate at Holyrood. Mr Dey hopes it will be selected once Parliament returns from summer recess in September. He said: “Littering is a major issue the length and breadth of Scotland.
“I took part in the local litter pick organised by Colliston Primary School earlier this year, and was appalled by the volume and nature of the rubbish which had been dumped around the school property.
“The 2012 campaign was a success both in terms of the number of people who participated and the quantity of litter removed. But Keep Scotland Beautiful is aiming to surpass that effort next year.
“My motion highlights its ongoing work in tackling the issue of littering and if I am successful in securing a Members Debate, I am certain there will be MSPs from across the Parliamentary Chamber contributing.”
