ENGINEERS WORK TO REPAIR PADANARAM GAS LEAK

ENGINEERS have carried out repairs to a gas pipe on the outskirts of Padanaram, following reports of a gas leak earlier this morning.

Commuters were faced with diversions after the Kirriemuir To Forfar road was closed and diversions put in place.

A spokesperson for Tayside Police confirmed Scotland Gas Networks notified them at 5.45am that there was a gas leak on the A926 Redford to Checkiefield road at Kirriemuir.

The road is currently closed east of Checkiefield and west of Padanarm whilst the pipe is repaired.

Sam O'Connor of Scotia Gas Networks confirmed engineers are at the site.

She said: "We were originally made aware of the gas leak this morning after a member of the public called to advise that they could smell gas.

"Our engineers have now found the location of the gas leak and repaired the gas pipe.

"We have contacted a local company to carry out reinstatement works to the road (laying tarmac) and we hope to open the road this afternoon."
