Forfar pupils face challenge of building bridges

BRIDGE CHALLENGE: Some of the students with their design.
BRIDGE CHALLENGE: Some of the students with their design.

With the introduction of the new tutor time at Forfar Academy, all pupils had to work as a class in a Bridge Challenge.

Each class was given a newspaper, roll of sellotape and a ball of string and were given the criteria of a minimum length of 30cm and a maximum length of 50cm. The bridge must be elevated by at least 5cm from the surface of the table and be free-standing. Any deviations from the stated materials will be disqualified

Each bridge entered would be tested in a strength test consisting of weights from science. And the winning bridge would be the one that held the most weight.

Each class would receive House points for each bridge entered and the winning bridge would receive extra points. Some weird and wonderful designs were entered to varying degrees of success in the strength test.

Overall the challenge was a huge success and was a great start to the new tutor time within the school.
