Kirrie woman Carol Benvie was judged third from 15 entrants at the Dulux Apprentice of the Year contest held in Angus College.
Carol, an apprentice painter with Enterprise Group, was up against eager students from nine Colleges, from Inverness to Ayrshire.
Fresh from holding a highly successful Scottish heat for the Skillbuild competition, confidence was high among the Painting and Decorating team - especially as Angus College students have lifted no fewer than 63 medals since 1998. The students were tested in a variety of skills, all demanding scrupulous attention to detail, from paperhanging in front of demanding judges to traditional brush skills and special decorative effects.
In addition, some traditional finishes currently staging a bit of a comeback were featured, such as rag-rolling and stencilling.
