EARLIER this month Forfar Academy hosted a sponsored Zumbathon.
Over 90 people attended and they all worked hard to follow the fitness routines.
The hard work certainly paid off as £383 was raised on the evening.
All the money raised will go towards supplementing the cost of various fieldwork activities which are undertaken by the school as part of the Switzerland trip.
The funds will go a long way to paying for a visit to the Aare Gorge - a spectacular walk through a gorge almost 200 metres deep. The system of pathways and tunnels allow the pupils to experience the force of the water and view the power which has been, and still is, shaping this dramatic landscape.
Forfar Academy staff and pupils would like to extend a thank you to all who made the Zumbathon such a great success.
In particular, thanks must go to Rachel Young of the Learning Support Department who led the Zumba and to Strathmore Water for the donation of 90 bottles of water as it was much needed.
It has been necessary to hold a number of fundraising events this year as the cost of the field tip to Switzerland has increased significantly.
Pupils have already carried out a successful ‘Bag Pack’ at the Asda supermarket and will do a further one at Tesco next term.
The trip is open to all S3 pupils sitting Standard Grade Geography and in June a party of 30 pupils and four teachers will head to Wilderswil in the Bernese Oberland.
The purpose of the trip is to allow pupils to transfer the knowledge they have gained in the classroom to real life examples.
