Christmas came early for Forfar Academy pupil Kieran Dear when he received the latest £250 Forfar Roof Truss Company Sponsorship Award.

Sixth year pupil Kieran is busy fundraising for a £6200 placement with the Project Trust.

He will spend a year teaching maths and science at a secondary school in rural Guyana and has already raised £4500 needed to fund his placement.

Kieran said: “My year overseas will promote personal development and allow me to learn how other cultures work by immersing myself in them; all the while helping the locals by filling their need for teachers in those subjects which are so often understaffed in the region.”

The Project Trust is an educational charity which sends school leavers in their year out to work voluntarily in various countries the world over.

The monthly Roof Truss sponsorship cheque is made in conjunction with the Forfar Dispatch and Kirriemuir Herald for projects in the Forfar and Kirriemuir areas.
