FINAVON Court resident Will Grey was the lucky winner of the Southern Cross competition, ‘Dream Summer Day.’
For his dream day out Will chose to go to the Leuchars Air Show on Saturday especially to see the Battle of Britain fly past.
Will chose to go to the last Leuchars Air Show as he was in the RAF himself during the Second World War.
Previously a ploughman working around Alyth and Blairgowrie, Will signed up when his friend asked if he would join him.
Once in the RAF, Will became a rear gunner and spent most of his three years of service in the Oxfordshire area. Rarely in any one town for more than a week they moved from boarding house to boarding house.
Although Will never saw any front line action over the course of the war he flew in both France and Belgium but, he said: “Never far enough to see any action.”
He added: “I enjoyed it in the RAF but we never got right to the front where the bad war was.”
Back in Scotland Will went back to his old life as a ploughman but with some new mechanical skills under his belt.
