Death of Marion Arnot

A private funeral took place last Tuesday in Forfar for Mrs Marion Arnot, who died last month at the age of 97.

Born and brought up in Forfar, on leaving school she worked as a shop assistant at Sturrock’s the Bakers.

After her marriage to John Arnot of Rosebank Nurseries she took an active interest in the running of the business.

Marion also supported a number of organisations in the town. She was a founder member of the dance committee of the RNLI Forfar Branch and was one of five surviving founder members still alive at its 25th anniversary.

She joined the Inner Wheel Club of Forfar in 1968 and held office including President in 1974-75 when the club celebrated its 25th anniversary. She was a founder member of the Forfar Ladies’ Luncheon Club and a member of the Dundee Floral Art Club. She arranged the flowers weekly for the East and Old Parish Church for decades.

Carrying on her family interests, Marion was a supporter of Strathmore Cricket Club, Forfar Instrumental Band and Forfar Operatic Society. She and her late husband enjoyed caravanning in the UK and travelled extensively from 1948 throughout Europe and North America.
