Death of devoted family man

A DEVOTED Kirriemuir family man and highly respected Tayside Police sergeant has lost his three-year battle with illness.

Father-of-two Andrew Winter, aged 42, passed away in Strathmore Hospice last week, having battled with a brain tumour.

Educated at Webster’s High School in Kirriemuir, Mr Winter worked with the former Wm. Low supermarket chain in Forfar before joining the police service in 1990.

He worked in the Stobswell and Broughty Ferry areas of Dundee before being posted to Brechin.

This was followed by spells in Forfar, Kirriemuir, the Angus family protection unit and then CID in Arbroath.

Promoted to sergeant in 2007, he returned to Forfar and was enjoying his time there until the family’s life was shattered with the diagnosis of a tumour.

Mr Winter is survived by his wife Hilary, and two daughters, Zoe (18) and Eve (14).
