A TEAM of Forfar Young Curlers has won on the national stage.

In the under 15s section, Ewan Maguire (skip) with Bruce Keillor, third; Fraser Smith, second, and Angus Redford, lead won the National Funspiel at Braehead on Sunday.

Four teams took part, Forfar (north), Perth (east), Stranraer (south) and Hamilton (west).

The game between defending champions Stranraer and Forfar finished in a drawn game.

With Stranraer and Forfar both winning their other two games, the final result came down to ends scored; scoring one end more, the Forfar (north) team took the Funspiel Under 15 Trophy!

Well done Forfar Young Curlers!

The Forfar Young Curlers won both age groups of the Regional Qualifiers earlier in the year to represent the north in a four way final representing north, south, east and west of Scotland.

Under 13 Section

NICOLA Joiner (FYC) skip, with Adam MacDiarmid (FYC) third, Graeme Grant (FYC) second and Daniel Harrison (FYC) lead, won their first game against Hamilton 8-0.

Unfortunately, they lost the second game against Perth, and the third against Dumfries.

A good day was had by all with friendly and competitive curling.

Thrums Trophy

THE THRUMS trophy was won by Fraser White (skip) and his team of Iain Wallace (third), Senga Barron (second) and Ross Craik lead).

Runners-up were Fraser Smith (skip), Angus Burnett (third), Inca Maguire (second, substitute for Jodie Duff), and Rachel Allison (lead).

Going into the last end, Team White was 5-4 up.

A big four sealed the win 9-4.

The Jockey Jan Trophy

ABERLEMNO won the Jockey Jan Trophy back from Forfar Young Curlers this year with a thorough trouncing of juniors.

Only one of the FYC rinks emerged victorious from the four games.

Well done to Drew Wilson’s team for winning the trophy being the highest up rink overall.
