A FORFAR couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Sunday (writes Shona Beaton).
Hugh and Margaret Raeside were married on May 2, 1951, at the Town Hall in Paisley after meeting at a young farmers’ social dance about three years earlier.
Hugh, originally from Houston, and Margaret, originally from Johnstone, both Renfrewshire, moved to Forfar after Hugh qualified as a vet.
The couple moved south for a couple of years just before they were married but soon returned to Forfar after Hugh was offered a partnership by Jimmy Nisbet at his veterinary clinic in East High Street, now the Abbey Veterinary Clinic.
Margaret spent her working life helping on the family’s dairy farm.
They said: “The wedding was held at night because this was more convenient for people to attend.
“After the wedding ceremony we stayed in the Town Hall where we held our reception.”
The couple then embarked on a tour of Scotland for their honeymoon.
Mr and Mrs Raeside have two of a family, Margo Ritchie, who now lives in Falkirk, and Fiona Stewart, who is now in Australia.
They also have three grandsons and one granddaughter.
