NEXT month Contact the Elderly groups will be celebrating 40 years of the charity in Scotland and the 60th group in Scotland will be launched on that date at Glamis Castle.
The new group will be the Forfar and Kirriemuir group and is being ‘adopted’ by the People’s Friend as their charity for the year.
Elderly guests and their drivers will be joined by the Brechin and Montrose groups for afternoon tea in the castle tearoom along with representatives from the media.
Jean Malcolm, co-ordinator of the groups, said: “Contact the Elderly takes over 75’s who do not get out a lot, for afternoon tea on one sunday afternoon a month. The drivers volunteer their time and the hosts provide a simple afternoon tea. There is no charge.
“Contrary to popular belief, our elderly guests do not moan and complain and the drivers look forward to the outings as much as our old people. Our guests are very appreciative of the time given to them and enjoy themselves enormously.
“We still need two or three hosts and we desperately need some people to join a pool of drivers.
If you could host a simple afternoon tea once a year for a group, usually 6-8 plus drivers, or if you could drive on a few sundays a year, please get in touch.
“I guarantee you will enjoy yourself.”
