AN insight into the building of The Titanic was given to members of Forfar Probus Club at their last meeting.
Vice-President Jim Ewing welcomed Mr Donald Clark, who hails from Arbroath and spent his working life in engineering.
He presented a very topical talk on RMS Titanic from the viewpoint of author Robin Gardiner who wrote the book “Titanic: The Ship that Never Sank?”. This author also co-wrote “The Riddle of the Titanic”.
Donald gave an insight into the building of the famous ship launched in 1911 in Belfast and spoke about Titanic’s older sister ship, the Olympic, built alongside the more famous vessel.
She was almost identical to Titanic and the author, Robin Gardiner theorises that the ship which sank was the Olympic in a complex insurance scam and cover up involving the White Star Line and, possibly, the government of that time.
The members were fascinated with his talk and the complex theories put forward by the author Robin Gardiner, Gordon Menmuir proposed the vote of thanks.
