Reswallie Hall has been saved from closure after members of the local community showed up at last week’s annual general meeting to pledge their support for the building.

Chairman David Conran-Smith had announced that the viability of the hall was in doubt due to the fact that the committee had been unable to attract new trustees to help run it and because of a general lack of support for events.

However, those attending the meeting left the committee in no doubt that they were against the closure.

Mr Conran-Smith said: “We were overwhelmed with the turnout and support from members of the local community, some of whom had never actually been in the hall before.

“Hopefully our new committee, who are all very motivated and enthusiastic individuals, will succeed in breathing new life into the hall and I am sure they will persuade their families, friends and neighbours to support our events over the coming year.”

Reswallie Hall is located approximately three miles from Forfar on the road leading from the Station House at Clocksbriggs on the Montrose Road up to the Arbroath Road.

It was founded over 70 years ago by Mrs Jamieson of Reswallie for the benefit of the community around Rescobie, Clockbriggs, Burnside and Reswallie.
