The Co-operative store at the Abbeygate will cease trading in December this year, the company can confirm.
Although the main store will close its doors on December 10, the petrol station will remain open and will be expanded to incorporate food sales.
A spokesman for The Co-operative Group said: “The Co-operative Group can confirm that its food store in Academy Street, Forfar, is due to close on Saturday, December 10.
“Staff at the store have been informed of the decision, which has been taken with the greatest reluctance, and is due to the store’s poor trading performance.
“It is not, in any way, a reflection on the commitment and hard work of the store team.
“Every effort will be made to redeploy as many as possible of the six full-time and 48 part-time staff with The Co-operative, or to help them find alternative employment.
“Some of the staff will transfer to the adjacent petrol filling station, which will continue trading and is to be converted to incorporate a new Co-operative Food convenience store.”
