The ladies of Forfar Inner Wheel enjoyed a delicious Christmas meal recently at Chapelbank House Hotel.
The evening was greatly enhanced by “Jim’s Ramblings” – stories, jokes and reminiscences from well known Laurencekirk Rotarian Jim Brown, MBE. A grain merchant from Fettercairn, Jim is a Past President of Laurencekirk Rotary and lists his interests as Lewis Grassic Gibbon, Highland Games and distilleries.
Many Forfarians will know Jim as the voice of the Marafun – as he has provided the commentary for every one.
He described himself as “huge” in the Howe of the Mearns and with a maxim of “a day without a laugh is a day wasted” the ladies were in for an evening of fun.
His talk took the club round and about Fettercairn, by way of the Tay Road Bridge, the leaning tower of Pisa, the shipyards of Belfast and the Scottish Parliament!
His witty tales and irreverent humour had the company in stitches – in spite of two fire alarms peppering the meal!
A happy, light hearted evening to end the year and start of the festive season. He was thanked most sincerely by Agnes Mackay.
