MEMBERS of Forfar Community Council spoke of the need for a hotel in the town and pinpointed the Orchardbank Industrial estate as the ideal location.
Members noted an application from KFC to build a fast food outlet and drive through at the site, which would bring between 30 and 40 jobs to the town. However, chairman Mrs Isobel Ross commented: “Personally, I would like to see a hotel being built. We need a hotel to bring tourists to the town.”
Members asked what steps Angus Council’s economic development department could take to attract a hotel onto the site. They welcomed the recent investment from Asda, Greggs, Goodfellow and Steven but felt a hotel would also benefit the town. Angus councillor Colin Brown reminded the meeting the council only part owned the site and would have to get the other party to agree.
